Well I was having a ho-hum weekend, mostly watching football and playing Madden 2003 at my friend's house. Then today I went to play my usual Sunday basketball and my boring weekend changed.

I'd gotten in a scuffle with my nut friend Jim 2 weeks ago when we were playing basketball. We were arguing a call and then, he patted me on the head, something which I've repeatedly told him NOT to do, because I am very likely to flip out if someone does. So, When I'm already hot in an argument over a call, the last thing you should do is pat me on the head. He did, and I fipped out, and tried to kick and punch him. I should mention that Jim is 6'5" tall and about 260 pounds. So you see, if someone pats me on the head, I flip out, and any logical reasoning flies out the window. I'd never try to fight someone that big in a normal state of mind. Anyway, we simmered down, and then we kept playing. To me, arguments/brawls that happen on the court stay on the court. I don't know how many times m and my brothers have had arguments and even a few fights happen on the court. We'd go home and it was over.

The next night I was watching the Dolphins game on Monday Night Football. Jim is a Dolphins fan and was still at work. The Phins gave up a touchdown on the first play of their season, so I signed on to talk a little trash to Jim. He said we weren't speaking until I apologized for being an idiot. I said Jim we should both apologize since you patted me on the head knowing what was gonna happen. He said that was bullshit, and we left it at that point.

So that was two weeks ago. Last week Jim didn't play. We work together in the IC department at AOL, and we didn't speak at all for those two weeks. Then today I pulled up to the court and saw his car there. I thought to myself, Ted, you must keep your temper no matter what happens on the court today. Unfortunately I never made it on the court.

As I walked up, I saw that Jim and my friends Ralph and Shayne were shooting around, waiting for more people to show up. I walked up, said hi to everyone, and started setting up my frozen water bottles, bending down to put them out in the sun to melt. As I was setting them up, Jim had come up and said something like, Ted I gave you a chance to apologize and you didn't. Then you take Candace to the AOL picnic.....and next thing I knew, he was swinging at me. I didn't realize what was happening until he'd already gotten like 4 punches n on my head. Then Ralph and Shayne pulled him off of me. I was mad of course, and also bewildered, my head throbbing. We had more words, and I realized my nose was bleeding. Then we were yelling at each other, with Ralph and Shayne yelling at Jim to leave, and then Jim came after me again. I ran out to the parking lot and he didn't follow.

So Hugh and two other friends pulled into the parking lot about 10 minutes later. They wanted to go talk shit to Jim and kick his ass. I told them no, that they didn't want to get involved in something like this with a nut like Jim. So we went to the park by my house to play. We actually got some good games in.

Then I came home and there was a message on my machine from Jim saying I have no respect for anything and that it wasn't over yet. This guy is a nut and very unstable right now. He just claimed bankruptcy and his parents won't speak to him anymore. He's also pretty much of a coke addict. I am a little scared of what a nut like this might do. I'd just as soon never talk to him again and avoid him, but when you get a message like that, I think he has more "revenge" or anger in his fucked up mind. Do I go to the cops? Do I tell the people at work? Who knows what he might do. I am waiting for Ralph to call me about it. He knows us both and keeps a very cool head. I can't think of what to do right now. Damn how did I get into this?

I'm getting a lot done on my days off here. Today I went to see the doctor. I told him I quit smoking and wanted to do whatever I could to make my lungs heal. He had his nurse give me some lung test where it tests how hard you blow into this tube thing and for how long. The tests showed that I have the lungs of a 98 year old man. Holy shit! This does help convince me to stop smoking though. Been 5 days now. The doc also gave me some new asthma medications and said that in 2 weeks he expected me to test with half the age score I got (meaning 44 year old lungs). I am wondering how much better a player I could be in the sports I play if that really happens. I am glad I've quit even if it's only for 5 days so far. I already appreciate the better breathing. My house smells better too. Like Robin Williams said in Dead Again, "There are two types of people in the world: smokers and non-smokers. The best thing you can do is find out whhich one you are and BE that." I just think I am a non smoker. I think writing about it will help me quit forever.

I just got back from the beach. It was nice to go again. I haven't been there all year. It's amazing how all my friends used to go every day and now I can't ever get them to go. Some don't go cuz they're lazy and/or have families and busy lives. It makes me feel like somthing of an outsider that I want to go and am single and nothing tying me down and they don't. Sometimes I envy them and sometimes I don't. Anyway I went with the trainer from our IC department. She is the only trainer I know that's cool enough to go to the beach with someone in the department she works for, since she's essentially a higher-ranking official and I guess it could be considered fraternization. But I talked her into going with me. We just talked and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and the view. She's an excellent conversationalist. I think the older I get the more important that gets. Women that babble on incessantly or can't make sense half the time just aren't worth chasing to get laid anymore. It doesn't matter what they look like. Conversely, someone average looking or so whose company I look forward to is a lot more fun. It takes us men years to learn this, I suppose. Then again, there are just as many men who babble and don't make sense as women.....

My manager left a message and the new softball season starts on Monday at 8:30. This is VERY cool. I like having something to on those weeknights. The guys are cool too.

Anyway I have some stuff I gotta go clean.

So anyway the first post flunked horribly. So let's try this again.

Last night I went bowling. I took my custom made ball that I had made 6 yars ago and used once before all my friends just stopped bowling. Everyone we were with used it and they all bowled pretty awesome except me. I bowled like shit and kept getting 9's. I ended with with 0 strikes and 3 spares in 3 games. And the rest were pretty much 9's Brah.

Soon it will be softball season anyway, and we have a league title to defend. Who woulda thought our team woulda won it all in our second year? It was amazing. The Brewers manager keeps calling me asking me to play in the Ponte Vedra league for the team I originally played for, but I just don't want to. I want some time off so I can bask in the glory of our incredible finish. He'd prolly invite me to play and then get his studs to show up late, and take me out of the game as soon as one of them showed up. He's done it before. He took a guy out in the middle of an inning when the "better" player showed up late. What an asshole he is. He takes being competitive to the asshole level like no one I've ever seen. Anyway the season is only 6 days away!

Otherwise I am enjoying my day off here. I got to go eat lunch with Amber and see her looking so hot and pretty in a skirt. She seemed a little nervous but it was cool anyway. Maybe she thinks I'm gonna attack her. Maybe I should. Hehe.

Vern is in my lap again. She'd lay there for hours if I let her. They say Siamese are very much lap cats and she definitely fits that description. She's the quintessential Siamese actually. She is very demanding of attention, follows me around the apartment all the time, and has a really bad temper. I remember when she got lost for 3 days and how worried I was. I was totally freaking out. When that stuff happens you realize how much a pet means to you.

Speaking of pets I am about to set my lizard free. He just hides all day and can't be too happy. I wish him luck in the real world.

I haven't smoked for like almost 4 full days now. Smoking is bad mmmkay?
