Ted's neverending analysis of life

Well the last 2 weeks have had a little action:

I had another one-on-one with my coach. By the time it rolled around I had decided that I needed to get over the problems I was having with him and just try to forget about it. So I didn't mention that I still wanted to talk to him about it. Then we started watching a few of my calls. 2 went fine and the third I made a mistake on. It's an easy mistake to make. My boss started asking me why I did it and all, and when I said it was an honest mistake and I didn't think it was a huge deal, he told me that my attitude was horrible. Then he crossed the line. He said how can I expect him to recommend me to a new potential employer when I do shoddy work and then nonchalantly shrug it off. Man did I ever go off then! I almost went to far. I laid into him big time, saying I thought I did a pretty damn good job here thank you very much, I show up for work and do what I'm supposed to do and almost never does anyone have to fix my mistakes or does he hear about me screwing things up. I am saying it a lot nicer here right now than I did to him. Question my devotion to AOL as a company, fine--I think the company's on a road to nowhere. But, tell me I do sloppy work or have a poor work ethic, and those are fightin' words.

So now we're back to not speaking to each other. I have just lost a ton of respect for him. If I were a boss and in his shoes, and I had a rep that was so bitter with me that he/she didn't even speak to me, I'd take them aside and say let's talk this out. Nothing can be lost, really, because it doesn't get much worse than me not even speaking to my boss. So why not have a bury-the-hatchet session? I am sure that the other coach in our department, Scott, would do the same. To not come to me and say let's talk this out makes it into something it should never become--and it also makes me question whether my coach has a set hangin'.

This has re-intesnified my job searches--which have still been fruitless so far. I got an email from my friend at the Mayo clinic saying "send me your resume right now!!" so maybe there's reason to hope there. A new job would be the best Christmas present I ever had :-)

I got myself a new set of clubs. Mom sent me a gift cert to Sports Authority and I paid the other half. For $200 clubs they seemed to hit pretty good at the driving range. I'll see how much they really help my still-new golf game this Saturday, when I'm supposed to go to a "real" golf course, Windsor Parke, with some guys off the softball team. These guys are very good golfers so maybe they can give me some pointers.

Oh and how can I not comment on those EAGLES!!!!! This has been the most incredible and dominating season they've had since 1980--the year I became an incurable sports freak. They lose their best player and then just win 4 in a row. It really is sweet, and for us Philly fans, it's been a very very long time coming. Hopefully it will all work out this year.

One thing that my quitting smoking--both types of smoking that is--is that this is the first year in a very long time that I got all of my shopping done and presents sent out on time. I guess when I'm not brain-rotting myself, I can get some things done.

Well hopefully the next time I write will be to tell about my new job. Otherwise I will prolly write on Christmas day, when I will be here working for the extra cash.

I just read that my favorite author, sci-fi writer Greg Bear, is going to have my 2nd-favorite book written by him turned into a movie:

This is pretty cool. He's been mostly unknown out of the sci-fi realm, and is finally getitng some due pub. It's actually a 3-movie deal. I'll have to read the sequel to this book--been meaning to for a long time. Still, he's written other really good stuff.

Well I just got confirmation that I will be moving in with my friend Dan....barring anything unforeseen. It'll be nice to get out of my apartment, although the place we move into probably won't be much bigger. It'll definitely be cleaner though.....and my landlord prolly won't be a pothead 26-year-old who had the apartments given to him. He's a slacker, although at least he never raised my rent in the 5 years I've lived there. It will be a bit unusual having a roommate I will actually see, as opposed to my bizarre current roommate--but at least we have enough in common to make it more interesting.
